Introducing Calathea makoyana, a captivating plant renowned for its exquisite foliage and tropical allure. This particular variety of Calathea is highly prized for its stunning leaves and graceful growth habit.

Calathea makoyana boasts large, heart-shaped leaves adorned with intricate patterns of veins, creating an eye-catching display. The leaves feature a delightful mix of lush green hues, accentuated by a glossy sheen that adds to its visual appeal. As the plant matures, it forms a clumping habit, producing a lush and vibrant arrangement.

In its native habitat of Southeast Asia, particularly in regions with moist, tropical climates, Calathea makoyana can be found thriving in the shaded understory of forests. This plant thrives in environments with filtered sunlight and higher humidity levels.

Caring for Calathea makoyana is relatively straightforward, making it an ideal choice for both beginners and seasoned plant enthusiasts. Here are some essential care tips to ensure its well-being:

Calathea makoyana Light Requirements: Provide Calathea makoyana with bright, indirect light. It flourishes in moderate to low light conditions, mirroring its natural setting. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as this can lead to leaf scorching.

Calathea makoyana Temperature and Humidity: Maintaining average room temperatures between 18°C and 24°C (65°F and 75°F) is preferred by this plant. It thrives in high humidity, so misting the leaves or placing it in a humid environment, such as a bathroom, will create an ideal atmosphere.

Calathea makoyana Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the plant when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry. Prevent the plant from sitting in standing water to prevent root rot.

Soil and Potting: Plant Calathea makoyana in a well-draining potting mix that retains moisture while allowing excess water to escape. A blend of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark is well-suited for this purpose.

Should I feed this Calathea makoyanaFeed once a month in spring and summer with liquid plant food. Why not try our vegan, organic plant food or Tropical Plant Dew.

Is this plant suitable if I have pets? This plant is non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Styling-wise, Calathea makoyana is a superb addition to any indoor space, infusing a unique and tropical touch. Its large, glossy leaves make it an excellent choice for adding texture and greenery to your home or office. Consider showcasing it in a decorative pot or hanging basket to highlight its elegant growth habit. It also pairs beautifully with other tropical plants, creating a vibrant, lush display.

The distinct foliage and graceful growth of Calathea makoyana make it an exceptional plant that brings a touch of the tropics to any environment. Whether it takes center stage or complements a larger plant collection, this stunning species will elevate the ambiance and create an enchanting display.

Please note: While Calathea makoyana may produce flowers in its natural habitat, indoor cultivation may not always result in blooming. Nevertheless, the true beauty of this plant lies in its extraordinary leaves and lush growth.

Embrace the exotic beauty of Calathea makoyana and relish the lush greenery it brings to your space. Its captivating foliage and tropical vibes will infuse your surroundings with a touch of elegance and allure.

Why write another review? There are already so many for this book.
Format: Kindle
It shouldn't surprise me that books that I like, by authors that I love, are extremely popular and well reviewed. This is the case with " . We might just as well ask, "Why write another book on prayer? The world is full of them." I could forego the review entirely, but I just can't do that because I love Annie (the author) so much and I cannot pass up the opportunity to say how much I appreciate her life and her work. While this isn't my favorite "Anne Lamott" book, it is certainly worth reading, if for no other reason than the entertainment value. Her words are so skillfully crafted and lyrical that it causes joy to spring up in my soul. This book will provide some insight into prayer for everyone; from the practiced, long-time prayer practitioner to the novice; from believer to agnostic. You will discover aspects of prayer that you had not appreciated before. This is not a technical treatise on prayer, but it did encourage me to pray and to be more faithful in prayer... to be more "in the moment" and to recognize the beauty that is everywhere around us. The day this came out I bought two copies, one for Kindle (which was formatted well and flowed smoothly) and the audio version (which I will listen to the next time through). I have several of Anne's other books in the audio version and I can say it is a real treat when she reads the books herself. Do not hesitate to buy this (or any other) book by Anne Lamott. You will be happily rewarded in the reading.

Understand your loss. Celebrate your gain. Live!
Format: Kindle
A quick look at what makes us human; our principal line of relationship to the Cosmos. Maybe not always reverent, but always livable and believable. This is a book, a primer, on how to deal with the mess of life. Written with enough seriousness and tongue-in-cheek humor to be readable and thought provoking.

An Invitation into the Heart of Reality
Format: Kindle
I love reading Anne Lamott. She helps me feel that it’s okay to be human. She helps me see that prayer is human. It’s the most natural thing you can do. And, really, everybody does it, whether they know it or not. In this delightful book, Ms. Lamott reflects on what she calls three essential prayers: help, thanks, and wow! Such human expressions! She invites us, the readers, into her perspective on life, infused as it is with both the mundane and the mysterious. There are times when it is even threatening. But we are not alone. We have each other, and we have God. (Or, better, God has us.). I don’t know that Ms. Lamott would want to be called an optimist, but she certainly sees the good in the bad (or, maybe after the bad). Life is both, she seems to say, but all is okay. So we ask for help when we’re wise enough (or desperate enough) to do so—both for ourselves and others. And we say thanks because life is full of reasons to be grateful. And there is so much beauty around us—and tragedy too—that we cannot help but erupt with wow! I urge you to read this book. Perhaps, as you read it, you will feel as I did reading it, that you are in a conversation with someone very wise and very compassionate and very real.

Another Thanks and Wow by Anne Lamott!
Format: Hardcover
I was first introduced to Anne Lamott's writing about 25 years ago when I read her book, Bird by Bird. It was a book about how to write and from that moment she became one of my favorite authors. Help, Thanks, Wow is a wonderful book that I have underlined and reread over and over again. Her writing has a voice that many of us can relate to. It's honest and you can feel her pain. She writes with humor to balance the good with the bad. Something that is so important to learn as we go through life. Her descriptions help you see, feel, and smell when she describes "autumn...the colors are broccoli and flame and fox fur. The tang is apples. The rot smells faintly of grapes..." She tells us how to ask for help when you can't do it all by yourself, but how important it is to say thank you, thank you, thank you and Wow for all the things you are grateful for. I loved when she wrote about how service to others is joy ,but how important it is to be kind to yourself. One of my favorite passages was this one, "This morning at six when I awoke, loneliness was sitting on my chest like a dental X-ray apron, even though I was buried in hairy dog love. Help, I am sad and lonely, and already it looks like today is going to be too long. I prayed...I did a kindness to myself, as I would have a troubled friend..." Her descriptions are all like this one and easy to relate to. I loved this book and have given it to friends who have then bought it for other friends. It is definitely a WOW!!!!

Not bad, but not my cup of tea
Format: Hardcover
After seeing Anne Lamott on TV, I was impressed with her and checked out this book on Amazon. The reviews were good, so I ordered it. I was a bit disappointed on receiving it, as I didn't like the shape of the book (too small) and I didn't like the type style (too hard to read). Then, I struggled to get into the book. I like to highlight insights in inspirational books, and I simply didn't find anything to highlight in this one. I think Anne Lamott is a lovely person and I understand how a lot of people liked this book. However, it just didn't bring any new insights to the table for me and it wasn't written in a way that I found compelling. The good news is, it wasn't too hard to finish, since it is short. I passed it on to someone I hope will enjoy it.
